Requirements?

(4 posts)
  1. I can't seem to find a list of system requirements anywhere.

Like the first time I installed I didn't know I needed VLC since previously I used EyeTV and didn't need any other apps.

    Anyone know the system requirements?

VLC isn't 'required' per se - if you want to watch 'live' iOnTV will find and launch it for you if you have it. If you just want to record and convert programs you don't need VLC.

From a system/performance requirement a 'fast G4' will work to record two standard definition channels simultaneously, however converting to H.264 will be slow. My 1.5Ghz G4 Powerbook gets around 5 frames per second (ie. about 17% real time). An 8 core Mac Pro will get around 120 frames per second (ie about 400% real time).

Leopard is required from an OS standpoint because iOnTV uses a bunch of new leopard features to simplify design and development.

  3. In that case I'll try reinstalling since I reinstalled Leopard on Mac OS Journeled drive. I had Mac OS Journeled (Case Sensitive) and iOnTV would not store my channel list.

... one of the stations either in the lineup or detected in the channel scanning has a particularly long callsign.

But I can't see that no one else is using Comcast Digital Cable, as I do, and no one else seems to have the problem.

I'm running on MacBook Pro 2.33MHz Dual Core 2 with 3 Gigs of ram and a 250 Gig 7200 RPM Serial ATA HDD.

Case Sensitive vs. Case Insensitive is not responsible for the error you're seeing in the log file.

The problem there is that one of the channel names is longer than expected and it causes the database to be invalid when a save is attempted.

I have a fix for that problem - however some other things are intruding on my ability to work on iOnTV right now. With a bit of luck those things will be resolved in the next few days.
